The Hongik Foundation integrates genetics, archeology, linguistics, and literature history to carry out a project to trace the origins and migration paths of Koreans and East Asians.
Experts participate and present research results that have been conducted in each field and new research results produced in the future. In addition, it will be produced as video and content in the digital contents room of the foundation and provided as an online service.
The current genetic foundation of Koreans have been establishedthrough an admixture with ancient Southern Chinese populations associated withIron Age Cambodians.
This admixing trend initially occurred outside the Korean peninsula followed soon by continuous spread and localization in Korea, corresponding to the general admixture trend of East Asia. Over 70% of extant Korean diversity is explainedto be derived from such a population expansion and admixture from the Southoccurred around 5,000 years ago.
